As a web designer, all you desire is good user experience. If the website is not fulfilling the designing goals, your hard work is going to get wasted. A good website design consists of good Interaction, visual appeals, and easy access to users.
Generally, there are a few mistakes which a smart developer avoid but sometimes get ignored. Let us see what the mistakes which are viable are, and a web developer should take care of in order to present a perfect website to the client.
1.Lack of effective communication:
What do you think, what is the most important factor
for a good website. Before you say, high-quality graphics, attractive fonts, dynamic design, I will stop you and say, “No it is the communication” The accuracy of a website is determined by the correct communication between the client, agency and the designer. To know the requirements of your client, it is very important to interact about the needs. The more clarity you will have regarding the needs, the more specifically you can reflect it in your design.
You choose one from the menu->You choose the size->You order the pizza
You choose one from the menu-> You choose the size (small, medium, large)->You specify the type of crust you need(thin crust, cheese burst, stuffed)-> You specify the toppings you need-> You specify the cheese requirement(shredded, Mozzarella, Gouda)-> You specify about the sauce you need( Peri Peri, Pesto, Hot sauce, etc)->You place the order.
What do you think, which order will come out to be more satisfying?. Off course, the second one. Similarly, a smart designer should always pay attention to clients requirement in detail.
In this way, the designer will not have to waste time in initial designs which may not get approved by the client later. It is better if the Interaction between designer and client happens beforehand to avoid conflict.
2.Lack of proper research before design initiation:
After the client put his designing demands, it is not advisable to directly jump to designing. There are a lot of other factors which must be taken into account in order to come up with a successful design.
In marketing there is a rule, “before what we want to do, look around what others are doing, not to copy them, but to do better than them“. You have to put on a certain good amount of time in doing designing research around the competitors. What they are doing, how do they are doing, and what can you do better.
3.Bad Colour coordination of layouts:
Choice of colour is one of the most important factor yet ignored one when it comes to design a successful website. The human mind has a tendency to inclined to things which are visually appealing. The eye is susceptible to certain colours in both positive and negative ways. 7/10 audience decides to stick on a website depending on its appearance. Colours are the building blocks of any visual. Some colours prick to the eyes, on the other hand, some colours are dull. You have to choose in between.
You have to make sure the layout doesn’t come out to be flashy with over gaudy colours. A soothing website with the correct colour combination can create a positive impact on the customer and make them stay longer.
Choose a colour which goes with the brand taste. Talk to the client and find out if they have any specific colour requirements. There might be some clients who are specific about some colours due to favourable Vastu, or they consider it to be their good luck colour.
A general idea of choosing the right colour comes from the logo. Make sure the background blends well with the logo colour. This tactic makes the website a little seamless, and the colour conflict reduces.
4.Ignorance to device Responsivity:
You did all the hard work, the perfect colour, a good design, an appealing layout. You should not forget about the devices upon which it will be implemented; otherwise, the hard work is going to get wasted again. Remember, a good website design is important and helps you get a validation from Google too.
I remember the days while browsing a website on my mobile, and I had to zoom in to an optimal size, but it would just end up cracking the letters. A very bad user experience it was.
Now technology has improved, and as a designer, you cannot afford to miss this part of designing, i.e. making it responsive for every device it will be scroll upon. A poor mobile experience can shoo away your audience in a few seconds. Nobody wants to put extra effort into scrolling, zooming in, zooming out, pricking eyes on hazy texts and shrunken images.
In the end, the brand may lose leads and sales due to a bad responsive design. Do you want that? Off course not!. So make sure apart from good design, the website is responsive enough to pass the test on every device.
5. Poor presentation and heavy Photoshop:
Presentation is important. The header section, the logo, the landing pages, the contact pages and about us pages, all should convey the message loud and clear. Sometimes when a designer stuff the websites with too many things, the real message diffuses somewhere in-between and the overall appeal becomes poorer.
Try to make it look clean and not clumsy. Put content wherever required and remove where it is not. The call to action button has to be very specific and user friendly. Have you seen in some websites, while you try to open a page and suddenly so many pop-ups flashes on the screen? It is heavily distracting and concludes a bad user experience. Try not to do that. Usage of Photoshop has to be optimised. Higher photoshopped images take more time to load and affect the performance.
Think in this way, each design that you make is not in the interest of the client always but for you. Make every design a masterpiece. More than clients advantage, it will fetch good portfolios for you too. With every design, you are showing the industry what you are capable of, how magnificent designs you can make.
At the end of the day, a good design is going to enhance your brand too as a good designer, upon whom brands and company can rely upon for creating a masterpiece for them. Start learning Web designing now, and yes, be a smart designer.
